Hello, my name is Beverley Shiels, and I am the founder of Courageous Goodbyes®. I am a trained and educated End-of-Life Doula, registered with the End-of-Life Doula Association of Canada.
A Calling That Began in Childhood
My journey in response to this calling began long before I had the words to describe it.
Since childhood, I’ve been the person others naturally turn to in difficult times—the friend who listens, reassures, and supports. I’ve always felt privileged to be entrusted with people’s most personal stories about life and loss. This ingrained ability to hold space for others is the foundation of the non-medical, compassionate support I offer today.
Finding My Life's Purpose
In 2016, I took the first official step toward what I now recognize as my life’s purpose.
When I shared my long-held dream of supporting those at the end of life, it was suggested I explore becoming a Death Doula. In that moment, everything clicked. As I learned more, I knew this was the work I was being called to do.
The Meaning Behind Courageous Goodbyes®
When choosing a name for my practice, I wanted it to reflect the immense emotional and physical courage it takes to face life’s hardest milestones—particularly the goodbyes we say to health, to life, and to loved ones.
From that intention, Courageous Goodbyes® was born.
I am committed to providing a sacred space of compassion, understanding, and unwavering support for all those preparing for life’s final chapter.
My promise is to walk beside you, ensuring your journey is filled with serenity, intention, and dignity.
