Answering The Death Doula Call
Many people ask what led me to this field. Reflecting on my journey, I realize it has been a natural progression since childhood. I’ve always been the friend others turn to during difficult times, offering a listening ear, reassurance, and support. This continued throughout my career and volunteer work, where I felt honored to be entrusted with people's life-and-death stories.
When the idea of serving the sick and dying began to surface, I couldn’t quite define it. At a conference, I shared my unfulfilled dream, and someone suggested I might want to be a Death Doula. That moment gave me clarity. Research confirmed this was the path I was called to follow.
I now refer to myself as an "End of Life Doula" because my focus extends beyond death to encompass life as well. Interestingly, I discovered my great-grandmother and aunt served their community during birth, death, and everything in between—this calling seems to run in my family's DNA!
In 2016, I took my first step toward fulfilling what I believe is my life’s purpose. I wanted my company name to reflect the emotional and physical courage required to face life’s most challenging milestones, especially saying goodbye to health, life, and loved ones. And so, Courageous Goodbyes® was born.
